Your Whirlpool WHAROS5 takes two reorder parts, the WHEERF filter set and the WHEERM membrane. The WHEERF set has one pre-filter and one post-filter, and you change it every six months. The WHEERM membrane lasts longer, with a filter life of 1 to 3 years that depends on your water. We stock both parts, and you can order either one from the number printed on the old part.
The WHAROS5 takes two reorder parts
The WHAROS5 is the Whirlpool UltraEase reverse osmosis filtration system. It installs under the sink and filters your water in three stages.
Our Whirlpool WHEERF UltraEase Under Sink Replacement Filters come as one set with the replacement pre-filter and the replacement post-filter. Each filter in the set is a genuine Whirlpool cartridge, and the same set fits both the WHAROS5 and the WHER25. The set you reorder has the same part number as the WHEERF set that came in the box with your system.
The Whirlpool WHEERM UltraEase Reverse Osmosis Replacement Membrane is the replacement membrane for the same two systems. It is a thin film composite membrane, and you order it apart from the filter set.
| Part | What you get | When you change it | Other numbers for the same part |
|---|---|---|---|
| WHEERF filter set | One pre-filter and one post-filter | Every 6 months | WHEERF5, WHEERF7, 129793, 652336, 7296830. Replaces Kenmore 42-38056. |
| WHEERM membrane | One thin film composite membrane | 1 to 3 years, or after a drop in water pressure or water quality | WHEERM5, 129801, 652335, 7296123. Replaces Kenmore 42-38577. |
If your old part shows a Kenmore number or any other number in the table, order the Whirlpool part on that row.
We sell the WHEERF set as a 1 pack and as a 3 pack, and we sell the WHEERM membrane the same two ways. A 1 pack covers your next change. A 3 pack of the filter set covers three changes, which puts a year and a half of sets on your shelf. A 3 pack of the membrane puts your next three membranes in the cabinet. Pick the 1 pack when you want one change on hand, and pick the 3 pack when you want to order less often.
We also sell the complete Whirlpool WHAROS5 UltraEase Reverse Osmosis Filtration System for a new install. You can see the rest of the line in our reverse osmosis filters and systems.
The WHEERF set changes every six months
The WHEERF set has a rated filter life of six months, and we recommend a new set on that same schedule. At that pace, your WHAROS5 needs two sets a year. Your water quality and the amount of water you use also affect when a set comes due.
Write the date on the calendar when you put in a new set. A set on the shelf then lets you make the next change on the day it comes due.
Whirlpool has updated the WHEERF set, and the post-filter in the updated set has an orange tip. If your new post-filter looks different from the old one, check for that tip. The tip also lets you pick out the updated sets among the spares on your shelf.
The updated set is still the WHEERF, and it still fits your WHAROS5. With the updated set, water may flow more slowly from the faucet, and the set comes without a battery.
The WHEERF set is tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 58 for the reduction of sediment and of chlorine taste and odor. In plain words, the two filters in the set reduce sediment in your water and cut the taste and smell of chlorine.
Before you throw the old set away, take a photo of its label with your phone. Your next order then starts from a number you already trust, and you buy the part that fits.
The WHEERM membrane lasts 1 to 3 years
The WHEERM membrane outlasts the filter set, and Whirlpool rates it at a filter life of 1 to 3 years. Where your membrane falls in that range depends on the hardness and the pH of your water. Hard water shortens the life of the membrane, and water with an unusual pH shortens it as well.
Whirlpool designed the system for municipal water and for private well water. A home on a well and a home on city water order the same WHEERF set and the same WHEERM membrane. If your well water is hard, plan for the membrane to come due toward the early end of its range, and keep a spare membrane in the cabinet.
Change the membrane after a drop in water pressure at the faucet or a drop in water quality. Either drop means the membrane is due, even before it reaches the end of its filter life. The one exception is a slower flow that starts on the day you put in an updated WHEERF set. That slower flow comes from the updated set, and your membrane stays in place.
Keep the date the membrane went in, and check the faucet each time a filter set comes due. When you see either drop, add a new membrane to the order for that set. Take a photo of the WHEERM label on the day the membrane goes in, too. Your phone saves the date with the photo, so the part number and the install date stay together.
Because the membrane lasts longer than the set, many of your orders will be the filter set alone. Note how long your first membrane lasts, and use that span as your guide for the next membrane order.
The WHEERM is certified and tested against NSF/ANSI Standard 58 for the reduction of total dissolved solids.
You change the filters without shutting off your water
The WHAROS5 has a built-in water shutoff, and you do not have to shut off your water for a filter change. The UltraEase encased design also keeps the change quick. You change the pre-filter and the post-filter at the same visit, because they arrive together in one set. When the membrane comes due in the same month as a set change, it goes in at that visit too, and you open the cabinet once for both parts.
Your first reorder comes six months after the install
A new WHAROS5 ships with a filtered water faucet, one WHEERF set, one WHEERM membrane, a storage tank, installation fittings, color coded tubing and push-in connectors. From install day, the two parts come due in this order.
- On install day, your system starts on the WHEERF set and the WHEERM membrane from the box.
- Six months after the install, you change the WHEERF set.
- Twelve months after the install, you change the WHEERF set again and check the faucet for a drop in pressure or water quality.
- Between one and three years after the install, the WHEERM membrane reaches the end of its filter life. That date falls somewhere from your second set change to your sixth.
Through the end of the third year, that schedule calls for six WHEERF sets after the one in the box, and two 3 packs cover all six. The membrane count depends on your water. A membrane that lasts the full 3 years needs one change in that span. A membrane that lasts one year needs three, and one 3 pack covers all three. After the third year, the same pattern repeats.
A WHER25 owner orders the same parts
The WHER25 takes the same WHEERF set and the same WHEERM membrane as the WHAROS5. You can find the dates for that model in our WHER25 filter schedule.
If you are unsure which of the two models is under your sink, your order stays the same either way. The updated WHEERF set with the orange tip fits a WHER25 too.
Keep both parts on schedule
A filter change is easy to forget, and Subscribe and Save is the fix. We ship the next set on the interval you choose, and it arrives when the old one is due. For the WHEERF set, an interval of six months matches its rated filter life. You can adjust the interval, pause a shipment, skip a delivery or cancel. Pick a shorter interval when your water or your use calls for a set sooner. Because the membrane comes due on a longer and less even schedule, you can order it by hand when its time comes.
Order the Whirlpool WHEERF UltraEase Under Sink Replacement Filters for your next change, and add the WHEERM membrane when the pressure or the water quality drops. If you want us to confirm the fit first, call us at 855-789-3278 with the number from your old filter.
