Frigidaire has been building refrigerators for decades, and the PureSource line is the filter family designed for those appliances. A Frigidaire refrigerator water filter sits in the supply line feeding the dispenser and the ice maker, treating water on its way through so what reaches the glass tastes the way it should.

PureSource cartridges use a multi-stage filtration design intended to reduce the taste and odor of chlorine while also targeting particulates, pesticides, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds. The aim is cleaner water without stripping the character out of it, and each cartridge listing states what that model is designed to reduce.

Fit is decided by refrigerator model. PureSource Plus cartridges are built for models made before 2001, and PureSource 2 covers refrigerators with the filter mounted at the top right side for both drinking water and ice. Later PureSource generations follow the same pattern, so checking the model number on the refrigerator, or on the cartridge being replaced, is the fastest way to land on the right filter. Many of these cartridges also fit the associated Kenmore and Electrolux refrigerators, and Water Sentinel makes filters designed for the same Frigidaire housings.

Filters in this category are sold as single cartridges and in multipacks. Frigidaire generally suggests replacing a refrigerator water filter every four to six months or about every 400 gallons, whichever comes first, though the owner manual for the appliance is the authority and heavy use can shorten that window. Slower flow at the dispenser and a return of chlorine taste are the everyday signs that a cartridge has done its work.
