MERV 11 is the middle of the residential range and the one most homes settle on. Under ASHRAE 52.2 testing a MERV 11 filter captures 65 percent or more of the particles in the 1 to 3 micron range and 85 percent or more from 3 to 10 microns, which covers pet dander, pollen, mold spores and most household dust. It filters noticeably better than a basic MERV 8 without asking as much of an older blower motor as MERV 13 does.
